Fly Fishing

River Fishing for Salmon and Wild Brown Trout

Here in Scotland we’ve some amazing places to fish for trout and salmon, rivers and loch’s of all sizes with some of the most beautiful settings for fishing.  Located close to our base we have the famous River Dee which is one known for its Spring Salmon fishing and the River Don on our doorstep which is also known for its wild Brown Trout.  It’s possible to fish all of these rivers on day tickets and we can help to arrange days on these river beats and indeed local guides to help put you on the fish.  The River Dee is situated 45-50 minutes away depending on the beats you might want to fish and the Don is literally a Stones throw away from our accommodation providers.  Transport to both rivers is no worries at all and we can arrange this for all our clients who might want to include fishing in their itinerary.  We would normally recommend booking the fishing in advance as there are many other anglers who come to just solely fish these rivers during the spring and summer months.  River fishing here can be fantastic but of course there’s never any guarantee that luck will be on your side so we have another great recommendation for those wishing to have a better chance of having a little more success trying to catch something.

Loch Insch Fishery

Loch Insch Fishery has to be without a doubt one of the best in the UK let alone Scotland, an amazing establishment set in some beautiful countryside and indeed very close to much of our hunting grounds for deer and waterfowl.  The fishery is stocked with Rainbow, Blue and Brown trout ranging from a couple pounds up to high double figures! This is an ideal location for both beginners and experienced fishers alike as there are a number of ponds to fish and as always different ways to fish them.  The fishery is well run by David Murray and he prides himself in providing a first class experience for anglers of all levels and ages.  The loch’s are all stocked weekly so immediately the chances of catching fish are a little higher but as always this doesn’t mean its that easy! Loch Insch is located only 20 minutes away from our accommodation providers and we can arrange transport to the venue no problem at all.  Its possible to hire any of the gear needed for fishing here and whilst booking ahead is recommended its also possible to book fishing here when arriving in Scotland.  David and his team are more than happy to accommodate anglers when they are on a flying visit so this style of fishing suits perfectly with our 3 day hunts.

Bothies & Bannocks offers chauffeur-driven food and drink tours in the North East of Scotland, giving an authentic taste of local culture, food and landscape. Based in the heart of Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, they are perfectly positioned to deliver some of the finest food tours in Aberdeenshire! Passionate about all things local, food and drinks you will be in safe hands while Calum guides you through some of the most amazing Scottish tours in our area.  We would recommed that these tours are booked in advance to ensure that they are available during your dates as they tend to be really popular during the main spring/summer tourist season.  It is still very much possible to take part in some of these great tours during our winter hunting season but even more so recommended to book in advance to ensure that tours can be arranged with the local businesses during their quieter seasons.  These awesome tours fit in perfectly with all of our packages and we will always do our best to make sure everything fits in during your trips to Scotland.

Glen Garioch Distillery

One of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland – and its most easterly – Glen Garioch (pronounced Geery in the ancient Doric dialect still spoken in these parts) has been making its mighty malt in the quaint and historic market town of Oldmeldrum, near Aberdeen in North East Scotland, ever since 1797. Shielded from the world’s prying eyes, deep in the fertile ‘Granary of Aberdeenshire’, and only ever produced in small, precious batches, Glen Garioch is a rare find indeed, but warmly appreciated by those who like a hearty Highland malt, non chill-filtered as nature intended, with a wholesome maltiness, honeyed sweetness and delicious creamy texture to savour.  Again the distillery is only 25-30 minutes from our accommodation providers.

Castle Fraser

Castle Fraser is a fabulous place to soak up the atmosphere of old Scotland. Later additions made the building into a huge fortified structure, one of the largest tower houses in the country.  Home of the Fraser family for more than 400 years, the castle is filled with family portraits, ornaments and mementos – all of which have their own colourful stories to tell about the lairds.  The traditional walled garden includes specimen trees, herbaceous borders, a medicinal border and organically grown fruit and vegetables.  The designed landscape you see today at Castle Fraser was established in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Walking the trails in this attractive parkland setting, you can see how the estate’s design combined practical functionality with impressive vistas.  The castle is situated within 10-15 minutes from our accommodation providers.
